ARTHROSCOPIC ROTATOR CUFF REPAIR

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat torn rotator cuffs in the shoulder. The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that attach the shoulder blade to the upper arm bone and help to stabilize the shoulder joint. Rotator cuff tears can occur as a result of overuse, trauma, or degeneration due to aging. Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is a popular method of treatment because it is less invasive than traditional open surgery and has a shorter recovery time.
The arthroscopic rotator cuff repair procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia, and the surgeon will make several small incisions around the shoulder. They will then insert an arthroscope, which is a thin tube with a camera and light attached, into one of the incisions. This allows the surgeon to see inside the shoulder joint and assess the damage to the rotator cuff. They will use specialized surgical instruments inserted through the other incisions to repair the torn tendon or muscle.
There are two main types of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair procedures: single-row and double-row repair. In a single-row repair, the surgeon will reattach the torn tendon or muscle to the bone using one row of sutures. In a double-row repair, the surgeon will use two rows of sutures to create a stronger and more stable repair. The choice of repair technique depends on the size and location of the tear and the surgeon's preference.

After the arthroscopic rotator cuff repair procedure, the patient will typically need to wear a sling for a few weeks to keep the shoulder immobilized and aid in healing. Physical therapy is an important part of the recovery process and helps to restore range of motion and strength in the shoulder. Most patients can return to normal activities within 4-6 months after the surgery.
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. These include infection, bleeding, nerve damage, and stiffness or weakness in the shoulder. However, these risks are generally low, and the benefits of the surgery in terms of pain relief and improved shoulder function often outweigh the risks.
